On a cold, winter day, a fireplace offers one of the spots places to warm up. You can finally thaw out and start to feel your toes again.
That’s why it’s no surprise that this guy wanted to seriously upgrade his fireplace from a drab spot to the hottest place in the house. Check out what he made happen in just a weekend’s worth of work.
This was the fireplace before he got to work.
First, he removed the original build.
Then he made a new hearth with sturdy wooden planks. He added a mantel made from reclaimed wood.
He temporarily removed the hearth and mantel to add a concrete layer and a cement board. They would serve as the foundation for…
This is definitely an improvement from the original pink tile.
When all the bricks were in place…
He was able to reassemble the hearth and mantel (which he painted white).
Here’s the finished product (and the proud builder). Not bad for a couple days of work.
I’d be pretty proud if I could pull off a project like this in just a weekend. It just goes to show how much you can accomplish when you put your mind to it.
